I have just ordered my first rifle - Savage Axis 2 Precision. I am going to purchase the EP5 but have no idea which height of mounts I should get - would medium be the correct ones?

The EP5 will work with the Halo Low rings, in conjunction with the 20MOA mounting rail. If you wish to use the sunshade, and/or Flipits scope caps, it will be very close. It is close on my rifle, and the caps barely touch the barrel.
If that is too close for you, I would recommend the Halo Mediums. It should give you approximately 5/16" clearance for the objective, and about 1/4" clearance with the caps.
